Nursing Prior-Authorization Audit Agent with LangChain
Inspired by the appointment of Dr. Courtney Aklin to direct NINR and the drive toward optimizing clinical nursing operations, this challenge focuses on streamlining administrative healthcare workflows. Prior-authorization processes cause significant nursing workload burdens. Participants will build a LangChain clinical audit agent that parses electronic health record (EHR) notes, cross-references insurance payer coverage rules, and automatically completes structured prior-authorization approval packages.
What you are building
The core problem, expected build, and operating context for this challenge.
Build a LangChain administrative workflow agent to parse EHR records and generate prior-authorization approvals.
How work is evaluated
Evaluates prior-authorization determination accuracy and FHIR output format validation.
Challenge datasets
Public datasets, plus the private datasets you have access to.
How submissions are scored
These dimensions define what the evaluator checks and which criteria separate a passable run from a strong one.
valid_prior_auth_status
Status must be APPROVED, DENIED, or MORE_INFO
This dimension contributes its full weight only when the submission satisfies the requirement. Partial credit is not awarded.
authorization_accuracy
Accuracy of authorization decisions compared to clinical reviewer consensus • target: 0.9 • range: 0-1
This dimension contributes its full weight only when the submission satisfies the requirement. Partial credit is not awarded.
What you should walk away with
Extract structured FHIR resources and medical notes using LangChain tools
Match patient clinical justification against insurance coverage policy rules
Generate standardized prior-authorization JSON packages for clearinghouse submission
Reduce clinical documentation review time while ensuring compliance
Reference links and supporting material
Synthetic EHR nursing notes, CPT procedure codes, ICD-10 diagnosis mappings, and insurance prior-authorization policy guidelines.
Challenge setup
Evaluates prior-authorization determination accuracy and FHIR output format validation.
Challenge input
JSON containing patient_note, requested_cpt, icd10_code
LangChain
Mandatory LangChain framework
Evaluated output
