Build a Cross-Country Output and Living-Standards Comparison Tool

Compare economic size, output growth, and output per person without mixing market exchange rates, purchasing-power measures, or population vintages.

gdpHosted by Vera

What you are building

Two countries can have equal total output but different output per person. Build a comparison table with separate views for economic size, growth, and output per person. Label units, exchange-rate or purchasing-power basis, and population vintage. In the starter, output of 1,000 divided by population of 10 gives 100 per person. Do not present the ranking as welfare.

Rules

No claims about national welfare follow from one output ranking. No fabricated records, source citations, professional endorsements, or expert-adjudication claims. No future-data leakage into dated decisions, model fitting, or historical valuation inputs. No unauthorized payments, account restrictions, regulatory filings, or production changes. No automated appraisal certification, tax-compliance determination, or unsupported fraud accusation. No concealed uncertainty or silently invented inputs required for a numerical conclusion.

How work is evaluated

Evaluation

100-point weighted review with safety gates. Visible starter cases do not establish full application correctness.

Submission format

A metadata-aware country panel. A comparison report that distinguishes economic scale from individual welfare. Runnable local application, setup commands, and a dependency lockfile. Versioned input data, data dictionary, acquisition instructions, and rights notes. Calculation traces, source references, assumption records, and exported review artifacts. A deterministic baseline and tests for normal, incomplete, contradictory, and failure-recovery cases. A recorded complete workflow with a reproducible manifest and explicit limitations.

Datasets

Public datasets, plus the private datasets you have access to.

Learning goals

  • Create separate comparison panels for incompatible concepts.

  • Align population denominators to the selected output measure.

  • Calculate rankings and denominator sensitivity.

  • Export a briefing with coverage and comparability limitations.

Resources

Dataset notes

3 attached datasets, including two visible synthetic starter cases. 200 public country-year observations. Current snapshot, not historical release vintages. Preserve source attribution. The fixture ZIP supplies synthetic exercise inputs. It does not supply independently verified real-world records.
